The Experts
A round-up of metabolic health and weight-loss experts to pay attention to π
It's crowded out there and the information can be hella confusing. Here's a round-up of people to pay attention to, who have been super helpful to me on my journey towards metabolic health. π
Peter Attia, MD π¨π»ββοΈ

Oh, Peter Attia, doctor among doctors, love of my life (metabolically speaking), and all-around longevity crush! π His 2013 TED Talk changed my thinking about obesity and my life forever. Unlike many medical practitioners, he questions the very nature of diabetes and its potential cure. Take a listen to his massively popular and deeply researched podcast, The Drive. The show is thoughtful, nuanced, and super practical. β
His stuff can be a little overwhelming initially, but don't be scared. Start here for nutrition tips, here for tips to improve metabolic health at any age, and here for a metabolic dysfunction framework. πΈοΈ
Layne Norton, Ph.D ππ»ββοΈ

Layne's expertise is in biochemistry and nutritional science. He is also a natural pro bodybuilder and world record-holding powerlifter. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of fat loss and body recomposition, and the man can bring receipts. Dang. I always appreciate his measured and scientifically rigorous take on difficult topics. π§ͺ And as an aside, let me tell you, the man's tricep game is strong.
Start here for an epic masterclass on the metabolic benefits of exercise, muscle mass, and protein intake. Layne and Peter together, I nearly fainted π₯²π₯°. Carbon Diet Coach is a flexible dieting app he built with some friends and is a great starting point if you're bamboozled by macros and nutrition for weight loss or muscle gain. πͺ
Jessie InchauspΓ© π₯
Credited for making glucose science sexy, she's a French biochemist and Glucose Goddess. In her fun and engaging style, InchauspΓ© demystifies the science of continuous glucose monitoring and how it can help non-technical readers and CGM newbies improve their metabolic health markers and lose weight for good. Like me, she also loves emojis. She's not better than the emoji and I can respect that. π
Start here for some Blood Sugar basics and read her fun and super practical book: The Glucose Goddess. π
Jason Fung, MD π₯€
Dr. Fung, you fasting aficionado! A nephrologist by training and creator of The Fasting Method, Dr Fung, has written some of the greatest books on obesity, diabetes, and the benefits of fasting to treat metabolic disorders. If you are experimenting with fasting for the first time, his work is an accessible entry into a pretty weird space. πΈ
His lesser-known work, which has been the most impactful to me, is The PCOS Plan: Prevent and Reverse Polycystic Ovary Syndrome through Diet and Fasting. Together with the wonderful Dr. Nadia Brito Pateguana they take you through the basics of PCOS and what you can do to start healing. Why is there no tampon emoji? Suspicious.
Check out his big hitters The Obesity Code and The Diabetes Code. π
Sara Gottfried, MD π§¬
A board-certified OB-GYN, Dr Gottfried is the bee's knees and a women's health extraordinaire. She's not about any funny stuff and cares deeply about a root-cause and systems approach to health and wellness.
There's a lot of confusing stuff out there about hormonal health that harkens back to the time we misguidedly ate for our blood type. Don't do it. π΅βπ« Have no fear, Dr. Gottfried is a breath of evidence-based air. π«
If you're looking for a primer on how diet and lifestyle affect your hormonal health, she's the go-to. Check out her book Women, Food, and Hormones. π©Έ Check out her Insta for great recipes too. π
